Vertex Technical and Economic Whitepaper — v2.1, May 2026

1. Abstract

Vertex is a commodity-backed artificial intelligence platform purpose-built for software development. Unlike conventional AI services that derive value solely from software infrastructure and venture capital, Vertex collateralizes its compute capacity with physical gold, silver, and energy commodities held in audited third-party vaults. This document describes the technical architecture, economic model, reserve methodology, and governance framework underpinning the platform.

2. The Problem with Fiat Compute

The current AI infrastructure market is characterized by extreme concentration, opacity, and fragility. Compute access is priced in fiat currency, subject to arbitrary rate changes, and dependent on the continued solvency of a small number of hyperscale providers. Engineering teams building critical systems on top of AI tooling have no guarantee of price stability, access continuity, or value preservation. Vertex was designed to solve this.

3. Reserve Architecture

For every unit of Vertex compute capacity sold, an equivalent value of physical commodities is purchased and held in custody. The reserve basket is currently composed of 60% allocated gold (LBMA-certified bars), 25% silver, and 15% energy commodities (crude oil futures and natural gas). Reserves are held across three independent custodians in Switzerland, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. Monthly attestation reports are published on-chain via our verification protocol and are accessible to all subscribers.

4. AI Architecture

Vertex's core model is a 70B parameter transformer architecture fine-tuned on a curated corpus of high-quality open-source code, technical documentation, and proprietary engineering datasets. The model supports context windows of up to 1 million tokens, enabling full-repository awareness. Inference is served across a distributed network of compute nodes, with no single point of failure. All model weights and inference infrastructure are operated independently of any single cloud provider.

5. Governance

Reserve composition, audit frequency, and platform governance decisions are subject to oversight by the Vertex Reserve Council — an independent body comprising commodity economists, cryptographers, and legal representatives. Subscribers holding Enterprise tier accounts are eligible to participate in governance votes on reserve rebalancing proposals. All governance decisions are recorded on-chain and publicly verifiable.

6. Risk Disclosures

Commodity prices are subject to market volatility. While Vertex maintains reserve ratios above 100% of outstanding compute obligations, the fiat-denominated value of reserves may fluctuate. Vertex does not guarantee any specific return on subscription value. This whitepaper is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial or investment advice. Subscribers should consult qualified advisors before making decisions based on reserve valuations.
